FAIR-U Workbook for Learners

Spreadsheet

The FAIR-U Workbook for Learners is a structured, interactive, Excel-based tool designed to help individuals and organizations understand and apply Factor Analysis of Information Risk (FAIR). This workbook provides a hands-on approach to conducting FAIR-based risk analysis, allowing learners to explore risk scenarios, apply probabilistic modeling, and interpret quantitative results—all within a transparent, formula-driven environment.

Why Use the FAIR-U Workbook?

  • Gain practical experience with FAIR-based risk analysis
  • See the mathematics behind FAIR with visible formulas
  • Perform Monte Carlo simulations and probability modeling
  • Designed for self-paced learning, training, and classroom use

Technical Requirements

The workbook is built in Microsoft Excel on Windows 10 (Excel version 2502) and MacOS (Excel version 16.95). The workbook includes VBA-based macros to function; disabling macros is not recommended. The workbook is protected and sheets are locked to provide a smooth user experience. Users may unprotect/unlock the workbook and its sheets — no password is required.

Verifying File Integrity

To ensure that you have an authentic and untampered version of the workbook, we provide a SHA-256 hash for verification. This allows you to confirm that the file you downloaded matches the original version.

  • File Name:

    FAIRInstitute_FAIR-UWorkbookForLearners_1.2Beta.xlsm

  • SHA-256 Hash:

    068021f20f4fbb6810ab130c41cf2ea4a34aa3552656d1858d5fafe05f2b035c

How to Verify the Hash on Windows (PowerShell)

  • Open PowerShell (Win + X → Windows Terminal (Admin))

  • Run this command: Get-FileHash "C:\path\to\

    FAIRInstitute_FAIR-UWorkbookForLearners_1.2Beta.xlsm" -Algorithm SHA256

  • Compare the displayed hash with the one listed above. If they match, the file is authentic.

How to Verify the Hash on Mac (Terminal)

  • Open Terminal (Command + Space, search for Terminal)

  • Run this command: shasum -a 256 /path/to/FAIRInstitute_FAIR-UWorkbookForLearners_1.2Beta.xlsm

  • Compare the displayed hash with the one listed above. If they match, the file is authentic.
