Chris DeRusha - OMB - 2023 FAIR Conference Speaker 2The FAIRCON23 audience of CISOs and other security and risk executives will be listening closely to DeRusha and Goldstein for the latest word on key issues of the day such as

  • Open source security/software bill of materials
  • Critical infrastructure security oversight
  • Cyber incident reporting requirements and harmonizing regulations across agencies

Hanging over the federal government’s cyber initiatives is the emerging threat that could be posed by generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) – can or should AI be regulated?

Eric Goldstein - CISA - FAIRCON23 Speaker 2Goldstein recently laid out the AI conundrum in an interview with The Wall Street Journal. “There is a wide breadth of risks plus benefits with AI…Think about how AI plays games like Go and chess in a fundamentally inhuman way. Well, what does an AI red team or adversarial AI look like when it tries to execute an intrusion in ways the defenders never thought of before?”

Cybersecurity for AI is one the main themes of FAIR Conference 2023, including

  • Keynote address by FAIR creator Jack Jones, “The Future of Risk Analysis in an AI and Automation World”
  • Three-hour lab session, “Analyzing AI Risk with FAIR”
  • Workshop for CISOs, “Managing Generative AI Risk”

Also on the FAIRCON23 agenda: a critical briefing from another side of the federal government, the regulators.  David Hirsch, the cyber enforcement chief for the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) will be the featured speaker at a roundtable discussion, How to Get Ready for the New SEC Rules on Cybersecurity, on Day Two of the conference, October 18, at 9:45 AM.

Those SEC rules mandate that companies quickly identify and report on cyber incidents that hit the level of material financial impact – and one of the newsier sessions of FAIRCON23 (at 1:00 PM on Day Two) will introduce the FAIR Materiality Assessment Model, a new extension to the FAIR standard for cyber risk quantification.
