John Chambers
In 20 years leading Cisco, John turned the networking company into a tech giant, growing annual sales from $1.2 billion to $47 billion, and acquiring 180 companies (eight in cybersecurity) along the way. With JC2 Ventures, he is out hunting market-disrupting companies particularly in cybersecurity (Safe Security, the technical adviser to the FAIR Institute is one investment). John was also an early investor in AI, and is a big believer in the potential for Indian tech companies; he thinks the Indian economy is on the way to surpassing China.
Saket Modi, CEO of Safe Security will interview John in this session; CISOs can expect some actionable advice on communicating risk to senior management and the board, among many other topics.
Bipul Sinha
In 2013, when ransomware was far from the top of anyone’s cybersecurity agenda, Bipul had the foresight to launch Rubrik with the goal of disrupting the legacy data-backup business, then focussed on disaster recovery. Rubrik offered a way to quickly restore data and applications after a cyberattack, thus avoiding a major business disruption -- changing the name of the game to “resilience” before that was a buzzword. Rubrik went public in 2023, at that time the largest public offering of a software company since 2021. Bipul grew up in poverty in rural India and has said “I’ve always been an outsider and having an outsider perspective keeps you grounded.”
Saket Modi will interview Bipul for a big-picture look at the cyber market and many other topics.
Jack Jones
FAIR was born out of a flash of insight – well, a moment of embarrassment really -- when Jack Jones was a CISO giving a report to the board and was stumped by one director who wanted answers on the business impact of cyber risk. Like any CISO at that time, Jack could only answer with “a lot” or other vague qualifiers. That set him on the pioneering path of developing quantitative analysis of cyber risk in terms that could be usefully communicated to business decision-makers. Jack chipped away at the fixed belief in the CISO community that “cyber risk cannot be quantified” until today, when FAIR is generally accepted as the gold standard of cybersecurity risk analysis. Jack is still laps ahead of the crowd in his thinking – most recently about automating risk analysis and quantifying (for the first time) the risk reduction effect of cyber controls and controls systems.
Expect more deep insights into where the CISO profession is going in Jack's conversation with Todd Tucker, Managing Director, FAIR Institute.
