FAIR Inst. Board Member Mary Elizabeth Faulkner Named One of “Notable Women in STEM”
We are pleased and proud to report that FAIR Institute Board Member, longtime FAIR advocate, and Vice President/Chief Information Security Officer at Thrivent, just named one of the Notable Women in STEM for 2023 by Twin Cities Business.
As Twin Cities Business wrote:
“She’s elevated how information security shows up as a strategic business partner across the financial services organization and spearheaded informed strategic risk conversations through data.
“Faulkner introduced the tenets of the Factor Analysis of Information risk (FAIR™) methodology to drive informed decision-making and help Thrivent better assess and predict the return on value for risk decisions and investments.”
She was one of the earliest FAIR practitioners. As we wrote in a Meet a Member blog post:
“Mary Faulkner got her education on Factor Analysis of Information Risk (FAIR™) straight from the source, as a co-worker with FAIR creator Jack Jones when he was CISO at Nationwide Insurance in the early 2000s. Mary learned FAIR from Jack in whiteboard sessions, and FAIR resonated with her right away. ‘It just felt good to have something more data-driven and not so subjective.’”

Mary has also contributed generously to the FAIR community by sharing her experience as a speaker at FAIR Conferences – here’s a sample:
