Mark Tomallo

SVP and CISO, Victoria’s Secret

Panel and Roundtable: The Evolving Role of the CISO as a Business Leader

Tuesday, 1:00 PM

Mark Tomallo FAIR Institute Nominee 2018Mark launched FAIR programs at Victoria’s Secret and another large clothing retailer, Ascena, and has been sharing his hands-on expertise at FAIR Conferences for five years running. Mark is particularly insightful on socializing cyber risk quantification in the organization. “Understanding how people consume the data is important,” Mark said at FAIRCON22, “and has solved a lot of problems and got us out of a lot of back and forth with how we visualize risk.  Some board members don’t want to be in the weeds but they trust the data because of the level setting we have done in the past.”

“I’ve never seen anything in my years in security that aligns my teams and I closer to the business [than FAIR]. This is 100% a business conversation.”

Christopher Porter

SVP and CISO, Fannie Mae

Panel and Roundtable: The Evolving Role of the CISO as a Business Leader

Tuesday, 1:00 PM

Chris-Porter-FAIR-Conference-2018Chris first learned about FAIR years ago working in cybersecurity at Verizon, where he led the DBIR, the respected annual cybersecurity statistics report.  Chris came to Fannie Mae — the federal enterprise that funds mortgage lending — in 2015 after 10 years at Verizon. An early advocate for FAIR in the industry, Chris has been on the board of the Institute since its founding and speaks frequently at the FAIR Conferences and other Institute events. The FAIR Institute awarded Chris the FAIR Champion Award in 2021 for his success in launching and spreading the CRQ program at Fannie Mae.

“By leveraging FAIR and really understanding the loss components of FAIR,” Chris said, “you have to go out and talk to the business, and find out, hey, how do you really make money?

That sort of conversation is really helpful, especially if you are a CISO because by learning about the business, you are learning about how the company operates.”
